CASE 7
Comprehensive rehabilitation - adult
After years of limited care, this 50-year-old patient decided it was time to take back control of her oral health and her smile.
The initial situation was severely compromised, with stained and damaged teeth affected by multiple issues, including caries and fractures. Some teeth could no longer be preserved and required extraction. Beyond the clinical findings, the patient expressed a simple and very clear expectation: she was not looking for a “Hollywood smile,” but for a healthy, stable mouth that felt right for her age—something natural, functional, and sustainable over time.
The first phase focused on healing and stabilization, including professional cleaning, caries treatment, and removal of non-restorable teeth. Only once a healthy foundation was re-established could a structured treatment plan be initiated.
A calibrated orthodontic approach with Invisalign was then used to re-align the teeth, rebalance the occlusion, and restore harmony in the anterior region.
The main phase lasted 12 months (52 aligners, changed weekly), followed by a 4-month refinement phase (18 aligners) to optimize precision and stability.
Orthodontic treatment alone, however, was not sufficient. Missing teeth were replaced with dental implants, restoring function and continuity, while restorative procedures were performed to repair and protect the remaining dentition.
What makes this case meaningful is not an exaggerated transformation, but the return to health, comfort, and normality. The patient regained the ability to eat, clean her teeth effectively, and smile without discomfort or concern, without changing her identity or seeking an artificial result.
This case illustrates that dentistry is not always about creating something new, but often about restoring what has been lost in a respectful and realistic way. With the right plan and a step-by-step approach, even complex situations can evolve into stable, healthy, and long-lasting outcomes.
